Bilingual Education at Colégio Anchieta (Novembro/2025)

06/11/2025

Bilingual education in Brazil has experienced significant growth and improvement, aiming for a more comprehensive educational approach that meets the needs of a globalized world. Recent guidelines from CNE/CEB Resolution No. 2, dated July 9, 2020, have brought greater clarity and security for the sector. These standards clearly distinguish truly bilingual schools from those that only provide extended foreign language instruction. Additionally, new teacher proficiency requirements have been implemented to ensure the quality and excellence in teaching.

The implementation of the bilingual model within our school, including classes in Global Citizenship, Language Arts, and Creative Class, reflects our progress. We aim to provide an education that goes beyond just fluency and prepares students for future challenges.

Bilingualism benefits student growth, going beyond just job market advantages. Studies display that bilingual children often have better cognitive flexibility, stronger memory, and greater focus. That is why our Creative Class and Language Arts classes are so important. They emphasize not only learning languages but also using English as a tool to enhance creativity and develop critical thinking, reading, and writing skills across different topics. Exposure to another culture fosters empathy and sensitivity, enabling students to gain a deeper understanding of the world around them.

It brings us to our ultimate objective: fostering global citizens. In our Global Citizenship classes, we demonstrate that events in one part of the world can impact us all. By using English in these classes, students can broaden their cultural perspectives and learn to respect and value differences among people. Moreover, fluency in a second language empowers them to understand and discuss complex global issues, such as environmental concerns and social justice, preparing them to seek solutions to these challenges. Additionally, fluency in English creates opportunities for connecting with individuals from other countries and learning about diverse cultures, which fosters a sense of belonging to a global community.

In summary, our bilingual education aims to prepare students to be more than just successful professionals in the days ahead. It empowers them to become thoughtful individuals who take positive actions to contribute to a more just and sustainable world. We are proud to be part of this journey with you.
